The Arizona Diamondbacks need to put Jarrod Parker on the fast track

20-year old righty starting pitcher Jarrod Parker was the D-Backs #1 rated prospect coming into this season according to Baseball America. He started 20 games in A+AA ball this season and he was 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. To move up though Parker will need to tighten up his control as he walked 38 batters in only 97 1/3 innings in the minors. Parker did strike out 95 batters though showing how good his stuff is. If Parker pitches well in the minors next season he could make his way to the majors based on the problems the D-Backs might have next season in the starting rotation.

UPDATE: Jarrod Parker will have Tommy John Surgery which will cause him to miss the entire 2010 baseball season. This is a huge blow to the D-Backs as Parker was likely going to pitch for them at some point next season.

The D-Backs have sent 25-year old righty swinging outfielder Chris Young to AAA and he deserved it. Young played in 103 games for the D-Backs this season and he was 61 for 315 (.194 avg, .655 OPS) with 35 runs scored, 7 homers, 28 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Young was a good player in 2007+2008 for the D-Backs as he played in 308 games those seasons in which he was 290 for 1,194 (.243 avg) with 170 runs scored, 54 homers, 153 RBIs and 41 stolen bases. The D-Backs better hope Young gets his act together as they have a lot of money invested in him.

The D-Backs have placed 21-year old righty swinging outfielder Justin Upton on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain. Upton is having a breakout season so the Diamondbacks will miss him. He has played in 103 games this season for the D-Backs and he is 118 for 392 (.301 avg, .915 OPS) with 68 runs scored, 20 homers, 66 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. The Diamondbacks have recalled 26-year old lefty swinging outfielder Trent Oeltjen to take over Upton’s spot on the roster. He made a great major league debut last night going 2 for 6 with a solo homer and 2 stolen bases. Oeltjen played in 106 games in AAA-ball before his recall and he was 124 for 414 (.300 avg, .863 OPS) with 74 runs scored, 10 homers, 61 RBIs and 19 stolen bases.

The Arizona Diamondbacks should give Pedro Ciriaco a chance at 2B

The D-Backs should quit going with career backup types like Ryan Roberts and Augie Ojeda at 2B. 23-year old righty swinging Pedro Ciriaco should get a chance to play 2B for the D-Backs. He has played in 87 games in AA-ball this season and he was 96 for 337 (.285 avg, .670 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 4 homers, 39 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. Ciriaco was the D-Backs’ #14 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. It’s time to give the kids a chance the rest of this season so that the D-Backs know what they have.

Bobby Korecky is working his way back to the Arizona Diamondbacks

Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 6 July 2009 at 2:38 pm

29-year old righty reliever Bobby Korecky got lit up with the Diamondbacks earlier this season. He pitched in 5 games (0 starts) for the D-Backs this season and he was 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP. He allowed a stunning 11 hits in only 6 innings with the D-Backs. But, Korecky didn’t sulk when sent to the minors. He has pitched in 26 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this season and he is 2-1 with 13 saves, a 2.12 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. Korecky has whiffed 24 batters in the minors while only walking 2 in 29 1/3 innings. Look for the Diamondbacks to give Korecky another chance soon if he keeps pitching like he is right now.
