The Arizona Diamondbacks have five regular players who are hitting the heck out of the ball for the D-Backs so far in the playoffs. Ryan Roberts is 5 for 11 (.455 avg, 1.273 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 double, 1 homer and 2 RBIs as he is ripping the ball. SS Willie Bloomquist had been getting everything started at the top of the lineup so far in this series. He has played in all 3 games for the D-Backs and he is 5 for 12 (.417 avg, .878 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 3 stolen bases. Rookie 1B Paul Goldschmidt has been providing the thump for the D-Backs in this series. He has played in 2 games in this series so far and he is 3 for 8 (.375 avg, 1.569 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 2 homers and 6 RBIs. Chris Young is 4 for 11 (.364 avg, 1.091 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 double, 1 homer, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base as he is really playing well against the Phillies. Aaron Hill is getting on base quite a bit in this series too as he has played in all 3 games in this series and he is 3 for 9 (.333 avg, .872 OPS) with 4 walks and 2 runs scored. The Diamondbacks need these guys to keep ripping the ball tonight as they need a win to continue playing this year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are suddenly getting impressive production at 1B

The Diamondbacks have had a lot of unproductive 1B so far this season. But, when they called up 23-year old righty swinging Paul Goldschmidt and signed 34-year old lefty swinging Lyle Overbay, that all changed. Goldschmidt has played in 35 games for the D-Backs so far this year and he is 28 for 113 (.248 avg, .807 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 7 homers, 20 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He does hack a lot, as he has already whiffed 39 times, but the D-Backs are willing to pay that price for his run production and power. Lyle Overbay has played in 10 games since signing with the D-Backs and he is 9 for 29 (.310 avg, .877 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 homer and 8 RBIs. The Diamondbacks hope that Goldschmidt and Overbay continue to roll.

Rumors abounded that 24-year old righty swinging RF Justin Upton was on the trading block over the winter. The D-Backs have to be glad that no one offered them anything near what they thought Upton was worth. Upton has played in 145 games for the Diamondbacks so far this year and he is 163 for 544 (.300 avg, .934 OPS) with 99 runs scored, 30 homers, 85 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He has remained red hot in September for the D-Backs as he has played in 9 games so far in September and he is 12 for 31 (.387 avg, 1.339 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 4 homers and 5 RBIs. He is one of the biggest reasons why the Diamondbacks are closing in on a N.L. West title in 2011.

It appears that a change of scenery has really sparked 29-year old righty swinging 2B Aaron Hill. Hill has played in 12 games so far for the D-Backs and he is 18 for 47 (.383 avg, 1.040 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 9 RBIs. He has now played in 116 overall this year for the D-Backs and Blue Jays in which he is 107 for 443 (.242 avg, .632 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 7 homers, 54 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Hill has really provided a nice spark in the lineup for the D-Backs and they need him to keep raking.

24-year old lefty swinigng LF Gerardo Parra isn’t a classic corner outfielder as he doesn’t have a lot of power. But, he is doing the little things good enough to remain a starter for the D-Backs. Parra has played in 13 games so far in August and he is 13 for 40 (.325 avg, .782 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 0 homers, 4 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 104 games for the Diamondbacks so far this year and he is 93 for 318 (.292 avg, .787 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 7 homers, 32 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. Despite the D-Backs’ efforts to take away P.T. from Parra, he just keeps producing.
