The Arizona Diamondbacks need Kelly Johnson to pick up the pace with the bat

The Arizona Diamondbacks don’t have enough offense to cover for guys who aren’t producing. Johnson has played in 11 games for the Diamondbacks so far this year and he is 8 for 46 (.174 avg, .574 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer, 4 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Johnson has good power for a 2B and he’s probably the best lefty hitter on the team. With those factors in mind, the Diamondbacks really need Johnson to pick up the pace with his bat, and soon.

Mark Reynolds was a disappointment for the Arizona Diamondbacks this year

The Diamondbacks have learned to live with the whiffs when 25-year old righty swinging 3B Mark Reynolds is concerned. But this season has been hard to watch for the team. Reynolds has played in 136 games for the D-Backs this year and he is 97 of 473 (.205 avg, .776 OPS) with 75 runs scored, 32 homers, 84 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He has also whiffed a stunning 197 times this season often looking helpless at the dish. Reynolds has now played in 554 games in his first four years with the D-Backs and he is 478 of 1,956 (.244 avg, .823 OPS) with 322 runs scored, 121 homers, 345 RBIs and 42 stolen bases. The Diamondbacks need Reynolds to rebound in 2011.

Gerardo Parra is blowing his big chance with the Arizona Diamondbacks

The D-Backs traded Conor Jackson to give 23-year old lefty swinging outfielder Gerardo Parra the starting LF job.  He has not done much at all with it though.  Parra has played in 102 games for the D-Backs so far this year and he is 66 of 272 (.243 avg, .642 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 3 homers and 24 RBIs.  He needs to have a strong finish to the season or he will be back to coming off the bench in 2011.

The D-Backs have sent 25-year old righty swinging outfielder Chris Young to AAA and he deserved it. Young played in 103 games for the D-Backs this season and he was 61 for 315 (.194 avg, .655 OPS) with 35 runs scored, 7 homers, 28 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Young was a good player in 2007+2008 for the D-Backs as he played in 308 games those seasons in which he was 290 for 1,194 (.243 avg) with 170 runs scored, 54 homers, 153 RBIs and 41 stolen bases. The D-Backs better hope Young gets his act together as they have a lot of money invested in him.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are stuck with Chris Young now

The Diamondbacks gave Chris Young the money and now they appear stuck with him. Young has played in 73 games for the D-Backs this season and he is 46 for 233 (.197 avg, .650 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 6 homers, 18 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. The Diamondbacks better hope that Young gets his act together soon or they will be in big trouble.
