The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired 31-year old righty reliever Brad Ziegler from the A’s for 25-year old lefty swinging 1B Brandon Allen and 24-year old lefty reliever Jordan Norberto. Ziegler has pitched in 43 games (0 starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 3-2 with 1 save, a 2.39 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He has now pitched in 223 games (0 starts) in his first four years in the majors and he is 11-13 with 19 saves, a 2.49 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.

Brandon Allen played in 11 games for the D-Backs this year and he was 5 for 29 (.172 avg, .834 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 3 homers, 7 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He played in 65 games in parts of three years with the Diamondbacks and he was 38 for 178 (.213 avg, .730 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 8 homers, 27 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Allen also whiffed 73 times for the D-Backs as he was pretty much an all or nothing hitter for them. Jordan Norberto pitched in 41 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the D-Backs and he was 6-2 with 1 save, a 4.25 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. He got into 33 games (0 starts) for the D-Backs last year and he was 0-2 with a 5.85 ERA and a 1.90 WHIP.

This wasn’t too high of a price to pay for the sidearming Ziegler who will give the D-Backs’ bullpen a new look. He is an effective reliever who should really help the Diamondbacks the last two months of this year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquire Jason Marquis from the Nationals

The Diamondbacks have acquired 32-year old righty starting pitcher Jason Marquis from the Nationals for 21-year old switch-hitting shortstop Zach Walters. Marquis has pitched in 20 games (all starts) for the Nationals this year and he was 8-5 with a 3.95 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. Marquis has now pitched in 323 games (264 starts) in his first 12 years in the majors and he is 104-97 with 1 save, a 4.52 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Marquis will step right into the starting rotation for the D-Backs and he will likely give them a nice boost the rest of the way.

Zach Walters was the #29 ranked prospect for the Diamondbacks coming into this season according to Baseball America. Walters played in 97 games in A-ball for the D-Backs this year and he was 109 for 361 (.302 avg, .861 OPS) with 69 runs scored, 9 homers, 56 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

The Diamondbacks have agreed to take on the rest of Marquis’ $2.47 million bucks he’s owed for this year and that’s why they didn’t have to give up one of their top prospects. I like this deal for the D-Backs.

The Arizona Diamondbacks sell Yhency Brazoban

The Diamondbacks have sold 31-year old righty reliever Yhency Brazoban to a tell in Japan. Brazoban pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the D-Backs this year and he was 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. He has now pitched in 122 games (0 starts) in his six years in the majors and he was 10-12 with 21 saves, a 4.76 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. The Diamondbacks won’t miss Brazoban at all and that’s really saying something with the state of their bullpen right now.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired Ryan Langerhans from the Mariners

The Diamondbacks have acquired 31-year old lefty swinging outfielder Ryan Langerhans from the Mariners for cash considerations. Langerhans played in 19 games for the Mariners this year and he was 9 for 52 (.173 avg, .664 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 3 homers and 6 RBIs. Langerhans has now played in 591 games in 9 years in the majors and he is 280 for 1,238 (.226 avg, .705 OPS) with 174 runs scored, 33 homers, 125 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Langerhans will start out in AAA for the Diamondbacks. He has a good glove but he just can’t hit. Still, it never hurts to add a guy with this much experience in the majors to stash in AAA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired Michael Restovich from the White Sox

The Diamondbacks have acquired 32-year old righty swinging outfielder Michael Restovich from the White Sox. No word yet on what the D-Backs gave the Pale Hose but I can’t imagine it being too much. Restovich has played in 26 games in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 22 for 96 (.229 avg, .646 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers and 8 RBIs. Restovich last played in the majors back in 2007 with the Nationals. He has played in 152 games in parts of six years in the majors and he is 64 for 268 (.239 avg, .690 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 6 homers, 21 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The D-Backs will stash Restovich in AAA, unless he gets hot with the stick.
