The Diamondbacks have lost 24-year old righty starting pitcher Bryan Augenstein on waivers to the Cardinals. Augenstein pitched in 25 games (22 starts) in AA+AAA-ball last season and he was 6-9 with a 6.49 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. His only time spent with the D-Backs was in 2009 in which he worked in 7 games (2 starts) and he was 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP. The D-Backs likely won’t miss Augenstein much as he didn’t pitch too well for them.

The Diamondbacks have removed the interim tag to Kirk Gibson’s manager job signing him to a 2-year deal. The D-Backs wer 65-97 this year finishing in last place in the N.L. West, 27 games behind the Giants. The Diamondbacks were 34-49 under Gibson but he was in charge of the team after it dealt Dan Haren and Edwin Jackson. I think he did a pretty decent job and it will be interesting to see what he does with a clean slate starting next spring.
