Everyone made a big deal of the D-Backs trading Dan Haren and Edwin Jackson at the trade deadline. But Joe Saunders and Daniel Hudson have outpitched Haren & Jackson since the deals were made. Saunders has started 3 games for the D-Backs and he is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Hudson has been even better than Saunders. Hudson has started 3 games for the Diamondbacks and he is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. Hudson has only given up 13 hits and he has walked 4 batters in 22 2/3 innings for the D-Backs as he has his act together now. The White Sox might wish down the road that they never dealt Hudson to the D-Backs.

28-year old lefty swinging 2B Kelly Johnson is having by far the best year of his career for the D-Backs in 2010. He has played in 103 games for the D-Backs this year and he is 115 of 396 (.290 avg, .882 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 17 homers, 52 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. His homer total is already a career high for him. He also is homing in on setting new career highs in runs scored (91), RBIs (69) and stolen bases (11). I know a lot of teams want to trade for Johnson but the Diamondbacks would be smart to hold onto him unless they get exactly what they want for him.

The D-Backs have placed 26-year old righty reliever Juan Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Gutierrez has pitched in 40 games (0 starts) for the D-Backs so far this season and he is 0-6 with 3 saves, a 6.69 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. Gutierrez has been awful this season but maybe a little rest will do him some good and get him back on track.
