The Diamondbacks have traded catcher Chris Snyder, shortstop Pedro Ciriaco and $3 million bucks to the Pirates for righty reliever D.J. Carrasco, infielder Bobby Crosby and outfielder Ryan Church. 33-year old righty reliever D.J. Carrasco is the most likely on this bunch to help the D-Backs. He pitched in 45 games (0 starts) for the Pirates this season and he was 2-2 with a 3.88 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He has now pitched in 226 games (23 starts) in six years in the majors and he is 22-18 with 2 saves, a 4.37 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. 31-year old lefty swinging Ryan Church could get some P.T. in the outfield if he starts to hit. Church played in 69 games for the Pirates this season and he was 31 of 170 (.182 avg, .552 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 3 homers and 18 RBIs. He has now played in 617 games in his 7 years in the majors and he is 487 of 1,845 (.264 avg, .765 OPS) with 242 runs scored, 54 homers, 260 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. 30-year old righty swinging infielder Bobby Crosby isn’t much of a player. Crosby played in 61 games for the Pirates this year and he is 35 of 156 (.224 avg, .595 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer and 11 RBIs. He has now played in 738 games in his 8 years in the majors and he is 603 of 2,547 (.237 avg, .677 OPS) with 329 runs scored, 62 homers, 274 RBIs and 34 stolen bases.

The D-Backs just didn’t need Chris Snyder anymore with Miguel Montero back in action. Snyder played in 65 games for the D-Backs this year and he is 45 of 195 (.231 avg, .778 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 10 homers and 32 RBIs. He finishes his career with the D-Backs having played in 556 games for them in which he was 379 of 1,626 (.233 avg, .737 OPS) with 179 runs scored, 62 homers and 240 RBIs. Snyder is #10 all-time in D-Backs history in games played (556). He is also #10 in RBIs (240) and #5 in walks (239) in D-Backs’ history. 25-year old righty swinging shortstop Pedro Ciriaco was the D-Backs #27 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Ciriaco played in 87 games in AAA-ball for the D-Backs and he was 92 of 355 (.259 avg, .670 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 6 homers, 51 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

This trade was all about money as they D-Backs were finally able to move Snyder’s big contract. But they didn’t get much quality in this trade but Carrasco could help them in the pen.
