The Diamondbacks have traded 26-year old righty starting pitcher Edwin Jackson to the White Sox for 23-year old righty starting pitcher Daniel Hudson and 19-year old lefty starter David Holmberg. Jackson started 21 games for the D-Backs this year and he was 6-10 with a 5.16 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. He did throw a no-hitter against the Rays this season and that was one of the bright spots in a very dark season for the D-Backs. Daniel Hudson was the White Sox’ #3 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Hudson pitched in 3 games (all starts) for the White Sox this year and he was 1-1 with a 6.32 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP. He has now pitched in 9 games (5 starts) in his two years in the majors and he is 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. Hudson has pitched in 57 games (all starts) in his three years in the majors and he is 30-13 with a 2.90 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Hudson only has given up 238 hits in 310 1/3 innings in the minors with 364 whiffs and that is what the D-Backs were definitely looking at with this deal. Holmberg came into this season as the White Sox #8 prospect coming into this season according to Baseball America. Holmberg has started 8 games in Rookie Ball this season and he is 1-1 with a 4.46 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. He has now pitched in 22 games (15 starts) in his two years in the minors and he is 3-3 with a 4.59 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. Hudson will take Jackson’s spot in the rotation right now. This was a nice haul for the Diamondbacks as they are rebuilding the pitching staff for the near future with a lot of good arms.
