The Arizona Diamondbacks lose Yusmeiro Petit on waivers

The D-Backs have lost 24-year old righty starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit on waivers to the Mariners. Petit pitched in 23 games (17 starts) for the D-Backs last season and he was 3-10 with a 5.82 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. In 3 years with the Diamondbacks, Petit pitched in 56 games (35 starts) in his 3 years with the D-Backs and he was 9-19 with a 5.05 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. The Diamondbacks screwed up on this move as someone would have given them something for Petit.

The Arizona Diamondbacks should place a call to the Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians are in dire need of starting pitching and they have a couple of cheap infielders that could fill needs with the D-Backs. With that in mind the Diamondbacks should offer Yusmeiro Petit to the Indians for Josh Barfield and Andy Marte. The Indians would jump at that offer and the D-Backs would benefit. Barfield has a nice upside and he would likely start at 2B for the D-Backs next season.

UPDATE: This trade won’t happen because the D-Backs lost Petit on waivers to the Mariners. This was dumb of the D-Backs who should have tried to trade him before cutting him.
