Will the Arizona Diamondbacks keep Stephen Drew next season?

Rumors abound that the Red Sox have their eyes on 26-year old lefty swinging shortstop Stephen Drew. The Red Sox would like to make a trade for him and team him with his brother RF J.D. Drew. But the D-Backs would likely want someone like Clay Buchholz which would make a deal hard to make. Drew has played in 130 games for the D-Backs this season and he is 131 for 512 (.256 avg, .746 OPS) with 68 runs scored, 12 homers, 62 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. The D-Backs might also have a interest in moving Drew if he starts to make too much money as he has only really had one really good season with them and that was in 2008.

The Arizona Diamondbacks need to put Jarrod Parker on the fast track

20-year old righty starting pitcher Jarrod Parker was the D-Backs #1 rated prospect coming into this season according to Baseball America. He started 20 games in A+AA ball this season and he was 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. To move up though Parker will need to tighten up his control as he walked 38 batters in only 97 1/3 innings in the minors. Parker did strike out 95 batters though showing how good his stuff is. If Parker pitches well in the minors next season he could make his way to the majors based on the problems the D-Backs might have next season in the starting rotation.

UPDATE: Jarrod Parker will have Tommy John Surgery which will cause him to miss the entire 2010 baseball season. This is a huge blow to the D-Backs as Parker was likely going to pitch for them at some point next season.

Billy Buckner has been awful for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season

26-year old righty starting pitcher Billy Buckner has been truly pathetic for the D-Backs this season. He has pitched in 14 games (11 starts) for the D-Backs this season and he is 2-6 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. He has allowed 85 hits (11 of them homers) in only 64 innings this season. He better miss more bats if he wants to have a future with the D-Backs.

Yusmeiro Petit is throwing BP for the Arizona Diamondbacks

Blogged under General, Front Page, Pitching BP, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Tuesday 22 September 2009 at 4:06 pm

24-year old righty starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit has been truly awful this season. He has pitched in 21 games (17 starts) with the D-Backs this season and he is 3-10 with a 5.85 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. In three years with the Diamondbacks Petit has pitched in 54 games (35 starts) in which he is 9-19 with a 5.06 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. The Diamondbacks might look to trade Petit in the off-season as they seem to be running out of patience with him.

Demotion appears to have woke up Chris Young of the Arizona Diamondbacks

Blogged under General, Front Page, Playing Well, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Wednesday 16 September 2009 at 11:56 am

Chris Young appeared to have learned from his short demotion to the minors. He has played in 13 games since his recall to the D-Backs and he is 14 for 48 (.292 avg, 1.066 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 6 homers and 9 RBIs. The D-Backs hope that Young will finish the season strong. His numbers for the season still don’t look good as he has played in 119 games for the D-Backs in which he is 76 for 373 (.204 avg, .702 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 13 homers, 37 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. It’s time for Young to start earning the cash the Diamondbacks have invested in him.
