The Diamondbacks have recalled outfielder Carlos Quentin and they will give him another chance to start in rightfield.  Quentin has been awesome in AAA since the D-Backs demoted him a couple of weeks ago.  In 15 AAA games, Quentin was 20 for 48 (.417 avg, 1.226 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 2 homers and 12 RBIs.  The D-Backs really hope that Quentin has regained his hitting stroke as he has not played well for them at all.  Quentin has played in 67 games this season for the D-Backs and he is 42 for 204 (.206 avg, .640 OPS) with 27 runs scored, 5 homers and 28 RBIs.

Minor league infielder Donnie Sadler has been suspended for 50 games for violating the minor league drug policy.  This will likely end his season and quite possibly his career with the Diamondbacks.  He has played in 52 AAA games this season and he was 24 for 112 (.214 avg, .714 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 2 homers, 17 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.  Sadler also played in 1 game for the Diamondbacks and he was 0 for 1 (.000 avg.).  The loss of Sadler will not hurt the Diamondbacks one bit this season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks trade Scott Hairston to the Padres

Blogged under Front Page, Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 28 July 2007 at 3:29 pm

The Diamondbacks have traded Scott Hairston to the rival Padres for AAA reliever Leo Rosales.  Rosales is a 26 year old righthander who was closing in AAA ball for the Padres.  In 24 games in AAA, Rosales was 1-1 with 14 saves, a 3.28 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.  He pitched 24.2 innings in AAA ball for the Padres and he has allowed 23 hits, walked 10 batters and whiffed 27.  Hairston played in 76 games this season for the D-Backs and he was 39 for 176 (.222 avg, .659 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 3 homers and 16 RBIs.  The D-Backs must have really soured on Hairston to trade him to a team they are competing with in the National League West.

The Arizona Diamondbacks lose Randy Johnson for the remainder of the season

Randy Johnson will have surgery soon to repair a herniated disc in his back and he will miss the remainder of the season.  Johnson started 10 games this season for the D-Backs and he was 4-3 with a 3.81 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  He has pitched 56.2 innings this season and he has allowed 52 hits, walked 13 batters and whiffed 72.  The Big Unit will be missed.

The first pitcher to get shot to replace the Unit will be Yusmeiro Petit who was acquired in the off season from the Marlins for Jorge Julio.  Petit has looked pretty good so far for the D-Backs in his 6 starts.  He is 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP so far this season.  In 34 innings he has allowed 31 hits, walked 9 batters and whiffed 24.
